Town Hall & Discussion with Principal Prof. Dr. Thomas Doctor
On February 4, we held our first Student Town Hall of the year. The session featured a lecture by Prof. Dr. Thomas Doctor, who recently participated in a symposium on Humanistic Buddhism with a thematic focus on artificial intelligence and the propagation of religion.
His presentation, entitled “84000 Limitless Gateways: Live Engagement with the Buddha’s Words of Gold on the Path of Impartial Reasoning,” addressed the central question of whether artificial intelligence can meaningfully contribute to debate training and critical reasoning, as explored on this website. Prof. Doctor also shared insights from his participation in the symposium.
Following a 30‑minute presentation, he invited the audience to engage in an open discussion of the topic. The town hall provided a space for rigorous intellectual engagement with Buddhist thought, contemporary educational methods, and the evolving role of AI in religious transmission and scholarly practice.
