Financial Aid

RYI is pleased to provide a range of financial aid opportunities to support both new and current students in their studies.

Financial Aid Application Dates  

All financial aid applications (except Horst Koch) now open on November 1. RYI will start evaluating financial aid applications on January 15 and will start to notify financial aid applicants by February 28. Financial aid applications will continue to be accepted after January 15 until all financial aid has been awarded, but priority will be given to those who applied by January 15.

Which Scholarship Should You Apply For?  

Below you will find a brief summary of each type of scholarship. For more detailed information  about  all financial aid programs and applications click on the links below:   

1. Bachelor of Arts Scholarship—If you are entering the first year of the BA program, please apply for the Bachelor of Arts Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for four years (subject to conditions).

2. Master of Arts Preparatory Scholarship—If you are entering the first year of the MA Prep program, please apply for the Master of Arts Preparatory Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for one year (subject to conditions).

3. Master of Arts Scholarship—If you are entering the first year of either the MA BS or MA TTIP program, please apply for the Master of Arts Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for two years (subject to conditions).  

4. Merit-Based Scholarship—If you are a returning student in any program (BA, MA Prep, MA BS, MA TTIP), please apply for the Merit-Based Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for one year (subject to conditions).

5. South Asia and Himalaya Scholarship—If you are a SAARC country citizen, please apply for the South Asia and Himalaya Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for one year (subject to conditions).

6. Ordained Sangha Scholarship—If you are an ordained monk or nun in either the BA or MA program, please apply for the Ordained Sangha Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for up to four years (BA applicants, subject to conditions) or two years (MA applicants, subject to conditions).

7. Translator Training Scholarship—If you are enrolled in the Translator Training Program, please apply for the Translator Training Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for one year (subject to conditions).  

8. Work-Study —If you are enrolled in any program, please apply for the Work-Study Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for one semester (subject to conditions).  

9. Horst Koch Memorial Scholarship for Online Learning—If you would like to enrol for an asynchronous online course, please apply for the Horst Koch Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded for one course (subject to conditions).

Students may apply for more than one financial aid program, but students cannot hold more than one award at any given time.  Only a small number of scholarships are available each year. Please consider carefully your financial situation and think of others less fortunate and apply only if you are truly in need of assistance.  

Important: Applicants who wish to also apply for financial aid are encouraged to submit their program application by January 15 along with their financial aid application, if they want to be prioritized for financial aid.
