Bhutanese Scholars Visit RYI
On October 13, a delegation of scholars from the College of Language and Culture, a department of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB), paid a week-long visit to Rangjung Yeshe Institute (RYI). The visit aimed to facilitate the exchange of curricula and pedagogical approaches and to lay the groundwork for future collaboration between the two institutions.
During their stay, the Bhutanese scholars attended several classes and engaged in extensive discussions about the respective academic programs. Much of the exchange was guided by Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, whose insights added both depth and a joyful tone to the dialogue. Rinpoche began by reminiscing about his time in Bhutan, and then emphasized the importance of preserving the authentic and comprehensive study of Buddhist philosophical treatises and their Tibetan commentaries. He underscored that mastery of Classical Tibetan remains indispensable for accessing the profound wisdom contained in the Tibetan Kangyur and Tengyur.
Rinpoche invited the faculty members of both the RUB and RYI to his residence to foster the collaboration between both institutes. On this occasion, he once again highlighted the importance of the Tibetan language as the sole medium for Vajrayāna teachings that maintain a living transmission and practice in the world.
