Samuel Ratkovich, a visiting student from Oregon State University, spent a semester studying at RYI in 2024 before returning to complete his undergraduate degree at his home university. There, the Global Studies Department launched its first study abroad photo exhibit, featuring photographs from Samuel and another student, Avery. One of Samuel’s standout photos captured Lopon with Ani Chodron, a BA student in the Bodhicaryāvatāra class. Reflecting on his experience, Samuel writes:

“Without a doubt, this has been one of the most transformative periods of my life. While many study abroad programs can be life-changing, this opportunity feels especially meaningful because self-reflection on my place in the world is deeply woven into the curriculum at RYI.”
