What does it take to become a translator of Tibetan Buddhism? In this talk, Sangye Khandro, a well-known translator, will share her journey into the field, exploring what draws people to this work, the challenges and rewards of learning Tibetan, and the realities of translating Buddhist texts and teachings. Drawing on her own experiences, she will offer insights into how translation preserves and transmits Buddhist traditions across cultures. The session will conclude with an open Q&A and discussion, allowing students to ask questions and engage in conversation about this unique and meaningful career path.

Sangye Khandro became a practicing Buddhist in 1972. Under the guidance of her root masters Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche and Sangyum Kusho, together with Gyatrul Rinpoche, she established dharma centers in the United States and Mexico. She has been an interpreter for many prominent masters and is now an accomplished teacher. Sangye was the spiritual companion of Gyatrul Rinpoche for over thirty years, studied with Kyabje Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, and has been the main translator for Khenchen Namdrol Rinpoche since 1996. She and Lama Chönam co-founded Light of Berotsana translation group in 1999. Together, they have published numerous books, commentaries, and practice texts.
