Profile:

Dr. Maria Vasylieva is a Tibetologist, Dharma translator, and interpreter. She holds a PhD in Buddhist Studies from the International Buddhist College, Thailand (2024), an MA in Translation, Textual Interpretation, and Philology from the Rangjung Yeshe Institute of Kathmandu University, Nepal (2019), and a PhD in Political Science from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2011).  

Maria joined the  Rangjung Yeshe Institute faculty in 2018, and since August 2024, has served as Assistant Professor. She teaches in the MA Program in Translation, Textual Interpretation, and Philology, focusing on translation methodology and applied translation (BSTD 707/801: Translation Workshop/Independent Readings, BSTD 802: Guided Studies, and BSTD 706: Translation Methodology Seminar). She also teaches BA courses in Advanced Classical Tibetan (TLAN 301/401 & TLAN 302/402), and courses on interpretation methodology in the Translator Training Program (TTRAN 303/304).   

Maria serves as a translator and interpreter of the International Kagyu Monlam and Dharma Ebooks Publications.  

Research Interests:

Her research focuses on the study and translation of Mahāyāna sūtras and śāstras through comparative analysis of Dunhuang manuscripts and Tibetan canonical texts, emphasizing philological inquiry, textual transmission, and the doctrinal development of Buddhist philosophical traditions.
