Judith Debbeler

Profile:
Judith Debbeler originally studied Music and German and received the “Erstes Staatsexamen für Lehrämter an Grund- und Hauptschulen” (equivalent to B.Ed.) at the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Universität Oldenburg, Germany, in 1996. In 2001 she earned the degree of “Magister” (MA) in Philosophy and English and completed her PhD in Philosophy in 2005, both at Carl-von-Ossietzky-Universität Oldenburg.
After having worked as a lecturer at the Institut für Theaterwissenschaft (Institute for Theatre Studies) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum from 2004 to 2008 and as dramaturg for opera, ballet and concert at Nuremberg State Opera from 2008 to 2011, Judith changed her academic direction and completed her B.A. in Buddhist Studies with Himalayan Language at Rangjung Yeshe Institute, Kathmandu in 2014. In 2015 she became a resident translator at Kamalashila Institute, in Germany. Since then, she has translated numerous Buddhist practice texts from Tibetan into English and German (e.g. for Kamalashila Institute, Germany, and Benchen Monastery, Nepal) and has also been working as an instructor for classical and colloquial Tibetan.
Judith joined the RYI research team in 2018. Her current translation project is Dagpo Tashi Namgyal’s chyag chen zla ba’i ‘od zer (Moonbeams of Mahamudra) from Tibetan into German.
