BSTD 310: Course Supplement: Service Learning

Service learning is designed to complement students’ formal study of a subject with related service in the community, as well as critical reflection on the experience. The practical application, in a real-life social context, of principles and practices learned in the classroom can be an opportunity for profound experiential learning. The combination of academic study and social engagement benefits both society and the student, highlights the relevance of a particular subject matter, and fosters a sense of civic responsibility. When appropriate, certain courses may include a service learning component.
