Summer Program 2021

Rangjung Yeshe Institute is pleased to announce the 18th summer studies online program featuring intensive language training and Buddhist philosophy. Due to global travel restrictions RYI will offer the Summer Program online for the second year running

Orientation sessions start from 9 June 2021, and classes run from 14 June to 5 August 2021 (eight weeks).

The Summer Program will be offered at a 25% discount to help those who may be struggling financially due to the global situation. You will find the price list for the Summer Program courses linked on the right hand side of this page (at the end of the page if you are on mobile) under the heading "Fees for Online Summer Program." The 2021 language programs offer full immersion into the Tibetan, Sanskrit, Nepali and Pāli language. The Buddhist Studies program provides a practical introduction to the richness of personal meditation training as well as theoretical.

The level of intensity of the Summer Program is high. However, students who successfully complete the summer courses will be well on their way towards a high degree of proficiency in the language studied. The eight week Summer Program language courses are comparable to two semesters of study for the same course studied as part of the undergraduate program at RYI.

All summer programs are fully accredited by Kathmandu University.

 

 

Summer Buddhist Studies

This online course is a full immersion into the theory and practice of Buddhism. Students are introduced to both classical and modern Buddhist scholarship and meditation training. In this way, the course offers students first-hand experience of many key aspects of Buddhist training which are otherwise rarely accessible to lay students. Read more...

Summer Colloquial Tibetan Course

The online colloquial Tibetan summer program is offered on three levels: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. The level of intensity of the summer Tibetan courses is high and the courses require considerable time and effort in order to meet class requirements and academic expectations. However, students who successfully complete the summer program will be well on their way towards a high degree of proficiency in colloquial Tibetan.  Read more...

Summer Classical Tibetan Course

This summer, Classical Tibetan is offered at two levels: beginning and intermediate. The beginning-level courses, Classical Tibetan I & II, can be taken over a period of 15 weeks. Conversely, Intermediate Classical Tibetan is an eight-week summer course that takes students on an intensive and rapidly productive learning journey. Summer Sanskrit Course

The online Sanskrit summer program is offered on two levels: Beginning and Intermediate (there may also be an advanced option, this will be confirmed in a short while). The level of intensity of the summer Sanskrit courses is high and students are expected to invest considerable time and effort in order to meet class requirements and academic expectations. Buddhist Literary Chinese

This course will not be offered this summer. 

Pali

The online Pāli summer program is offered at the beginning level. The level of intensity of the course is high and students are expected to invest considerable time and effort in order to meet class requirements and academic expectations. Students who successfully complete the courses will be well on their way towards a high degree of proficiency in Pāli. This course is equivalent to one academic year of Pāli Studies. The course introduces Pāli grammar, combined with regular chanting and translating texts from Canonical Pāli texts. Read more...
