Center for the Study of Apparent Selves (CSAS), Announcement of First Publication: Insights

The team of researchers at the Kathmandu-based Center for the Study of Apparent Selves (CSAS) and Dr. Thomas Doctor, the Principal of Rangjung Yeshe Institute and Director of CSAS, announce their first publication, Insights.

Insights, a groundbreaking collection of essays, emerged from a unique collaboration between CSAS scholars and Tibetan Buddhist master Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche. This project bridges ancient wisdom and cutting-edge science, exploring how Buddhist perspectives on mind, selfhood, and collective flourishing might inform AI development. Initiated at a 2022 workshop in Nepal, the collection features concise, accessible scientific discoveries from various fields, curated to inform religious leaders about contemporary and emerging topics that will transform our world.

Available in English and Tibetan, with plans for more languages, Insights aims to spark a global, interdisciplinary dialogue on pressing issues like artificial minds, diverse intelligence, and the integration of technology with biology. This living compendium invites scholars from AI, Biology, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Philosophy, and Religion to contribute to a growing body of knowledge, addressing some of the most profound questions of our rapidly evolving technological era.
